This novel, set in Manhattan, a young woman turns on her stove only once—to try to kill herself. But it’s an electric oven and she only succeeds in having a bad hair day. After that it’s all take-out and deliveries for her—while trying to tell the delivery men from the boys.
The image instantly conveys the heat, and risk of getting burned, while at the same time creating a swirling vortex to draw you in.
